Set up front page template

If you’d like to have a home page like the demo website, follow these detailed instructions:

Assign front page template

There are two ways how you can use the frontpage template of your theme.

1. Frontpage Template Options

The theme comes with an option to automatically display the front page template on the home page of your WordPress website.

You can find this option on your WordPress admin panel Appearance Theme Options Frontpage tab.

Please be aware that this option will override the ‘Front page displays’ settings you have made on Settings Reading.

2. Custom Page Template

You can also use a custom page template to display the front page template rather than the theme options. Therefore you have to create a new static page and change the page template to “Frontpage Template”. You can then set your static page as front page.

Frontpage Image

The front page template features a big image area at the top. There are three possibilities of frontpage images you can choose from:

1. Custom Header Image

When you select the first option, the frontpage template will display your custom header image which you can set on your WordPress admin panel Appearance Header.

2. Individual Image

In case you want to use a separate image on the frontpage template rather then the default header image, you can select the second option. Afterwards, click ‘Upload Image’ on the ‘Frontpage Image’ option below to upload your individual image.

After you have uploaded your image, you can select the “FrontPage Image” size on the image popup box and click on ‘Use this Image’ to select your frontpage image.

3. Image Slideshow

You can also use an image slideshow on the front page template by checking the last point on the “FrontPage Image Source” option. Please click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the Front Page options page immediately after you have selected the ‘Image Slideshow using Custom Post Type Slideshow’ option.

After you have saved your changes a new custom post type named ‘Frontpage Slider’ is registered. By default WordPress has two post types; blog posts and static pages. Now you have a third custom post type for your slider posts. You should find a new menu entry on your WordPress dashboard.

You can create new slides on your WordPress admin panel Frontpage Slider Add new. You can set a title for each slider post and also insert an URL if the slide should have a hyperlink. The most important option is the Slide Image metabox, where you can set a featured image which is used as slider image.

Front page intro

The front page template supports an intro text which allow you to highlight your key message. You can enter your intro content on your WordPress panel Appearance Theme Options Frontpage tab.

Front page widgets

Below the front page intro the template displays some horizontal widgetized areas. This feature give you a wide range of possibilities to design your frontpage, because you can easily add any widget you like to the frontpage template.

Each Frontpage Widget area contains a description where you can find out for how many columns the widget area was designed for (e.g. First three column horizontal widget area displayed on frontpage template.)

Please place one widget for each column in the frontpage widget area (e.g. three columns => three widgets, two columns => two widgets). This will make sure that your frontpage widgets are displayed properly.

The frontpage entry option is designed for inserting normal page content within your front page. You can enter your title and content on Appearance Theme Options Frontpage tab.

Front page blog posts

Furthermore the front page template allows you to display your latest blog posts. You have to activate this feature on Appearance Theme Options Frontpage tab by checking the ‘Show Frontpage Blog Posts?’ option.

The front page blog posts use featured images as thumbnails. If your existing posts have already had featured images, they may look disformed because they do not match the new required sizes for the front page template. In order to fix that you have to regenerate your thumbnails.
